报告摘要:Black liquor is a byproduct of the chemical papermaking process, and each year nearly 200 million tons of black liquor are produced worldwide, corresponding to a thermal flow of nearly 100 gigawatts. The combustible component of black liquor originates from the wood used to make paper, and consists primarily of lignin. Black liquor is therefore biomass-based, and is considered a "green" renewable fuel. Conventionally, black liquor is burned in very large "recovery" boilers for the dual purposes of heat recovery and chemicals recovery. However, gasification of black liquor presents many interesting opportunities, both in terms of energy efficiency and with regard to the pulping chemistry. Synthesis gas from black liquor can be used for generation of electric power or production of fuels and chemicals such as substitute natural gas or dimethyl ether. In this presentation, Prof. Kevin Whitty will introduce the chemical papermaking process, black liquor, a history of black liquor gasification technology development, today's gasification technologies and what the future can promise.
